Efficient use of energy sources, as well as final form of energy has a significant impact on the economic and financial aspects of business and life in general. In the end, but not least importantly, increasing energy efficiency should be viewed in the context of energy supply, and conservation of energy sources for future generations, which is one of the basic postulates of sustainable development.

These are all reasons due to which JP EPBiH, as a modern and socially responsible company, focused on continuous improvement of energy efficiency in all of its business processes, which is one of the company's strategic objectives.

In recent years EP BiH had significant results in raising energy efficiency. In production, appropriate measures increased the net efficiency of thermal power plants of JP EPBiH to the level of 30.5%, which is an increase of approximately 30% compared to the period 1990/1991, with consequent positive effects on reducing emissions. Thus, the CO2 emissions decreased from about 9.5 million t/y in the year 1990, to the present 6.5 million t/y, for a comparable product portfolio and the level of production. Current specific emission of thermal power plants of  JP EPBiH is at the level of 1176 kg/MWh, and the net emission coefficient of JP EPBiH (specific CO2 emissions of JP EPBIH) is at 860 kg/MWh. Bearing in mind the importance of the issue of CO2 emissions in the context of the global fight against climate change, but also a significant impact of the CO2 emissions on financial aspects of electric power companies, alongside energy efficiency activities JP EPBIH manages CO2 emissions through a series of measures designed to reduce CO2 emissions, such as the development and introduction of RES portfolio in company's production and combustion of coal with waste biomass, increase of cogeneration, and further increase of ENEF production facilities, etc.

Distribution losses were reduced to about 9% in the distribution activities through elimination of illegal consumption, better organization of measurements and readings, and the application of new technologies, which is the best result in the region and similar to some of the developed countries.

Recently particular attention of JP EPBiH has been focused on energy efficiency in the supply and energy saving in consumption – among customers. In this segment, JP EPBiH recognizes the long-term mutual benefit - for its customers, as well as for the company itself.

In order to reach its objectives in the field of energy efficiency, JP EPBIH follows and implements its own Energy Efficiency Policy as part of integrated activities within the Energy Efficiency Management System that is currently being set up in the company.
