CoolHeating project

In the period 20th-24th February 2017, Elektroprivreda BiH will host the second Project meeting (2nd Progress meeting) within the EU CoolHeating Project (Promoting the implementation of "small modular renewable heating and cooling grids" for communities in South-Eastern Europe)

CoolHeating project is funded by the EU Horizon 2020: Research and Innovation program of the European Union. Elektroprivreda BiH is the first project partner from BiH in one of the EU Horizon 2020 projects. Project period is 3 years (01.01.2016-31.12.2018).

The objective of CoolHeating is to support the implementation of "small modular renewable heating and cooling grids" for communities in South-Eastern Europe. CoolHeating transfers knowledge from partners in countries where renewable district heating and cooling examples exist (Austria, Denmark, Germany) to countries where there are less examples in the sector (Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina). Core activities, besides techno-economical assessments, include measures to stimulate the interest of communities and citizens to set-up renewable district heating systems as well as the capacity building about financing and business models. The outcome is the initiation of new small renewable district heating and cooling grids in 5 target communities up to the investment stage.

Target municipality in BiH is Municipality of Visoko, while the follower communities are municipalities Živinice and Goražde. On 21st February 2017, in EPBIH, it is planned a progress meeting of the partners on the project: WIP (Germany), GET (Austria), Planenergi (Denmark), Elektroprivreda BiH (Bosnia and Herzegovina), University in Zagreb (Croatia), University in Belgrade (Serbia), Skupina (Slovenia), SDEWES Skopje (Macedonia), Municipality Ljutomer (Slovenia), Municipality of Sabac (Serbia) and Municipality of Visoko (BiH). On 23rd February 2017, a technical workshop is planned to be held, also in EPBiH. This workshop is focused on the participants of the domestic industry and representatives of the departments of local development of municipalities. Project partners of Elektroprivreda BiH are USAID, UNDP and GIZ, and 14 industrial partners in this field, from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Good practice examples from Germany, Denmark and Austria as well as the experience of operators of such systems from the partner countries will be presented. At the same place, industrial partners in the field of heating/cooling systems in Bosnia and Herzegovina and representatives of partner companies Project CoolHeating will be gathered with the aim of exchange of experiences.

For participating in the Project CoolHeating, Elektroprivreda BiH has received a grant in the amount of 109.465,00€. Project has been initiated and led from the Department of Strategic Development EPBIH. The motive for participation in the project is the support by EPBIH, as a socially responsible company, for the introduction of modern technologies in the production of thermal energy in BiH, strenthening and improvement of regulation in sectors of heating and renewable energy sources in BiH, and contribution to the sustainability of district heating systems in the municipalities (Visoko and Živinice) where the heat energy supply from TPP "Kakanj" and TPP "Tuzla" is planned in the next period.
