Meeting of consortium partners at Horizon 2020 UPGRADE DH

The second project meeting of consortia partners at the Horizon 2020 UPGRADE DH project, funded by the European Commission, was held In Sarajevo and Tuzla, organized by JP Elektroprivreda BiH, in the period 10-12 April 2019.

It is of utmost importance that attention is focused not only on the transition of the electricity production sector but also to the transition of the heat supply sector to meet the requirements for cleaner air and mitigation of climate change. When it comes to supplying heat energy, it can be achieved by producing in cogeneration plants as well as through the 4th generation of district heating systems with integrated modules on renewable energy sources: heat pumps, solar thermal collectors with heat storage, biomass, or geothermal energy. These topics were discussed in Sarajevo and Tuzla during the meeting on project progress of the first day in the premises of EPBiH in Sarajevo, then the second day during the visit of Tuzla CHP units and Tuzla DH distribution utility, and the third day during the session dedicated to study cases of upgrading of the district heating system in Europe, as well as final session dedicated to the district heating sector in BiH.

In addition to the consortium partners, these project events included international and domestic external participants and experts, including Toplane Sarajevo and Kakanj DH distribution utility as future replication systems for the Upgrade DH, Association of Thermal engineers in BiH, nLogic, representatives of Salcininkai municipality from Lithuania, Copenhagen from Denmark and others.

The hosts were the EPBiH Upgrade DH team from the Strategic Development Department and TPP Tuzla, with the assessment of all participants that the event organization was at the highest level for all three days.
