Projects of Elektroprivreda BiH – contribution to environmental protection

Within the investment cycle, which includes the construction of production capacities from renewable energy sources and replacement thermal plants, Elektroprivreda BiH has been successfully developing projects whose implementation is conditioned by strict application of environmental measures arising from the Directives of the European Union and Energy Community.

In the implementation of Podveležje WF, which includes activities in the preparation and concrete works for the wind turbine foundations, Elektroprivreda BiH has been focused on the use of renewable sources, defined by the EU in binding documents aimed at reaching the share of 32% of consumed energy from renewable sources in the Union until 2030.

At the same time, with the construction of Block 7-450 MW at TPP Tuzla, a modern high efficiency production facility, BiH will have the facility with the latest equipment for prevention of environmental pollution.

Elektroprivreda BiH has made an advance payment of EUR 108,351,750 (plus VAT), which made the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Agreement for Block 7 (EPC Agreement), entered into with the Chinese Consortium Gezhouba, effective. The advance payment was allocated from the funds of Elektroprivreda BiH. The deadline for completion of construction works and putting the Block into operation is 56 months.

Block 7, the replacement for the existing Blocks 3, 4 and 5 at TPP Tuzla, is and environmentally acceptable facility for generation of electricity, designed in accordance with the European legislation on environmental protection. Its construction will include the best available techniques for combustion plants, which ensure that emissions of pollutants into the air, water and soil is below the permitted thresholds and requirements prescribed by EU and BiH.

With Block 7, Elektroprivreda BiH will significantly improve ecological performances of its plans for generation of electricity from coal, owing to the latest technologies used in the design of the new production capacity.

At the location of TPP Tuzla, preliminary works are being performed for the construction of future plant. In accordance with the EPC Agreement, Elektroprivreda BiH has the obligation to complete the works in preparation and planning of the location. The activities began in November last year, with the completion deadline of 12 months.

During the preliminary works, representatives from the Consortium contractor will perform technical supervision of the future plant, whose construction should begin at the beginning of next year.
